Control

I have learned some things in my journey back from hell. One of the ultimate truths in my life has been that I am my own worst enemy. All of my sad stories aside, I had to understand that it was me alone that had the power to make my life into what I had always envisioned. No amount of alcohol or drugs, no relationship, job, car, food or amount of prestige and power would fill the void that drove me there. My efforts to control others, people, places and thin
gs were a death sentence. Finally, after years of struggling to control everything around me, I have surrendered to one simple fact. I am the only person I can control…just ME alone, no one else. Some days I even have a hard time with that.

I rationalized, “But my children need guidance, it is my duty as their mother...how can I do that without controlling all that they do?” Once on my journey of awareness and enlightenment, it occurred to me I could insert everyone I knew into that equation. I was trying, more covertly, of course, to show them the RIGHT WAY to do this or that. My husband, parents, friends, employees, all of them have suffered at my hand for one thing or another. Yes, my school aged children needed some guidance, but this was much more than the healthy parental responsibilities I thought I was providing. I had to be honest with myself.

Alas, I am not judging myself too harshly in all this awareness. I also know all of this behavior was just an unconscious attempt to feel safe. I was operating from the belief: If I know what everyone is doing, I can relax and trust again. I could feel happy and enjoy my life. In the effort to control, I was placing all my personal power outside of me. From this belief, there is no true choice. As ridiculous as it sounds, I was attempting to go through my life offering each and every person I encountered the MUST HAVE book of the century, How to Make Lisa OK, A Guide to Making the World a Better Place. If you will behave this way or that, I will be OK. You can imagine how well it was received by them.

Inevitably, as it happens, the people I attempted to control pushed back. In retaliation of my need to control, they rebelled. Fights, misunderstandings and hurt feelings were a constant bog for me to muddle through. Life became tedious. They just didn't understand me. I meant the very best for them. A sordid little dynamic is created in families that are plagued by this behavior; it rarely appears in any single member. It is a family issue, taught and learned from generation to generation, for decades or even centuries. “That’s the way I was raised!” I declared, justifying the pain of seeing my children wounded by my harsh words. I saw my marriage falling into the same trap, me mimicking my parents' failed attempt at wedded bliss. Regardless of whose “fault” it is, or who started it, I KNEW in my spirit it had to end.

It has been years since all five of my children have lived at home. There is much to share about the time between my first awareness and the effective solutions I have found. However, I feel compelled to share the end result of the years of resistance and suffering, growing and squirming: the solution to the insanity of control lies in acceptance.

This seems so simple and easy, but I confess, I have struggled to learn this. To grasp full meaning of the word in this context, I begin with my relationship to God, the Universe, and my Divine Self; whatever you want to call it, this is the Source. The beginning meant I had to trust. I had to let go of my idea of EVERYTHING. The expression, “Everything is exactly as it is supposed to be” became real and life-like. Who am I to say what the Universe should do or what is in store for me and my life, not to mention all the other people I was trying to dominate! I ask for guidance on a daily basis. I pray, and meditate when I can quiet my mind. I ask my Higher Self to come forward and be present in my relationships. I ask that I get out of God's way, so I can be useful to myself and others. I practice this. Simply and profoundly, I accept the answers as they are offered and they have worked in my life.

I am the only person I can control…just ME.

I hope you will find some hope in these words, for that is my intention. I will continue to reveal more of the lessons given to me on the subject of control in a series of notes to be posted here on My Renewed Mind. They are unfolding before you, every day I am led. If you can relate, if you have questions, please feel free to comment or send me a private message. I write this to enrich your days, and keep these revelations in the foreground of my mind, so the lessons are never lost. When one teaches, two learn.

Beauty from the inside

One of the great things about cleaning out files is that you find things you had forgotten you had.
I came across these "beauty tips" and thought I should share. Profound. Inspiring. Beautiful.

Beauty Tips:

For attractive lips,
Speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes,
Seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure,
Share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair,
Let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone.

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; Never throw out anybody.

Remember, If you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older,

You will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.

Cocktail - 2012

Title: Cocktail
Language : Hindi
Produced by: Saif Ali Khan & Dinesh Vijan
Co Produced by: Sunil Lulla & Andrew Heffernan
Directed by: Homi Adajania
Written by: Imtiaz Ali & Sajid Ali
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone & Diana Penty.

Story:

The movie opens with the ever flirtatious Gautam (Saif Ali Khan) in a flight, who doesn't even miss a chance to get close to hot women around. We also get introduced to Meera (Diana Penty), the sweet, petite lady, who gets dumped by her husband Kunal (Randeep Hooda). And, then finally, enters the most wanted hottie Veronica (Deepika Padukone), whose never seen, smashing avatar is sure to captivate millions. Things turn better for the helpless Meera after she meets the wild cat Veronica, who gives her shelter at her home. Though poles apart, in terms of character, the two females start staying under the same roof in London. Gautam, who gets a dream job in London, too moves in with them, under the same roof. The film beautifully defines enjoyable, entertaining and entangled friendships along with bitter turmoils that friends can go through. Though different from each other, these three are perfect friends, staying under one roof. They all have a blast, until love happens. The perfect friendship turns confusing, and love becomes complicated. But, with whom does Gautam finally ends up - Is it going to be Veronica or Meera, or will they all live together? Watch the movie to know the suspense.

Opinions:

The look, peppy music and the feel-good factor in Cocktail will go down extremely well with the audiences. Saif, Deepika, Boman Irani, Dimplae Kapadia delivers marvellous performances. And if the music and look is not enough to tempt you, the dialogues work as an added enticement. A few scenes make you smile and laugh. Dimple Kapadia, the desi, Indian mom, wants her son Saif to get married soon. On the other hand, Gautam is completely not interested in marriage, the dialogues explains his sorrow comically. That's just hilarious to watch. We also crack up when Gautam's mom chides Deepika for not dressing appropriately.

Cocktail follows the basic Bollywood genre-geometry of a love triangle. The good part about this one, unlike most love triangles, is that the three protagonists get to know who loves whom pretty early in the picture and the revelation isn't stretched till the climax. However, beyond a point, the film isn't able to use this element to its merit and falls for the regular range of spite-to-sacrifice sentiments of any triangular love story. Cocktail, basically, is the same prose with new grammar.

Jamie McGuire - Beautiful Disaster

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1)

Synopsis:

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My Opinion:

The book Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire has been all around the Blogosphere lately. It became available on Netgalley and many bloggers are currently reading it. This book has caused many controversy and has earned some really nasty reviews, still, the book has an average rating of 4.13.

I'm not sure what to write about this book. The reviews for the book were SOOO incredibly misleading. I thought Travis was going to hit her, or come close, the way everyone was going on about the 'abuse' in the book. I get it, it was intense.

This is a book about an alpha male. Just because it's not a paranormal book and instead, a contemporary, it's not ok for him to act like that? I'm a pretty (very) conservative person and I've read paranormal books where the guys act worse than that.

Abby was the one who got on my nerves the most throughout the book for jerking Travis around all the time.

The thing that makes this story both intriguing and appalling, is Travis' obsession with Abby. He is consumed by her. She becomes his everything. Exhilarating in theory; unhealthy in reality! His obsession, at times, becomes disturbing and worrisome. In the end Travis makes some behavioral changes, albeit more surface than substance, hoping to win Abby back. He succeeds, and Abby returns to the relationship. In doing so, some readers may believe in the misconception that one person can change another.

While a part of me knows better I still loved so much about this book. I am a girl, after all! Will I recommend this books to my young rephew? No. Very few teens have either the experience or maturity to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

Anger..

Sometimes, the problem is everyone feels misunderstood. All happen at the same damn time.

When the day has been long and anxiety ridden, and the night stretches long with more anxious moments ahead, you wonder, whether you should snap or ignore? The other person, will be wondering the exact same thing.

When you feel angry enough that you do not want to speak to anyone, the other person is probably debating the same thing: to vent or not to?

I try hard to remind myself that.Of course, it works better by just letting things ease on its own.... until sanity and peace is restored. But, and it's a big but, it's so bloody hard to control yourself till then!

description

Sometimes...

Sometimes we care with love; sometimes we care with fear.
Sometimes we care with self-respect; sometimes we care with self-contempt.
Sometimes we care with a sense of possibility; sometimes we care with fears of inferiority.

The important thing is that we don’t let caring about people or circumstances detract from our ability to care for ourselves."

When winter ends and spring comes, we wither
In longing, my heart is bruised

(I’m singing my blues) used to the blue tears blue sadness
(I’m singing my blues) love that I let go to the drifting clouds oh oh

Same sky, different place, it’s dangerous for us so I’m letting you go
From lovers to strangers. It’s cowardly, but I’m hiding because I’m worthless
No words, not even those made out of love, can comfort a cruel parting
This is probably the last melo in my life

I met you and loved you to death
My heart is stained blue and frozen, I can’t feel you even when I close my eyes

When winter ends and spring comes, we wither
In longing, my heart is bruised

(I’m singing my blues) used to the blue tears blue sadness
(I’m singing my blues) love that I let go to the drifting clouds oh oh

It feels like my heart stopped, the war ended but you and I are still frozen in that place
The trauma is inscribed in my mind, once my tears dry, hopefully I’ll remember my love
I’m not in pain, I’m not lonely, happiness is simply talking to myself, and I can’t stand anything more complicated
I don’t care, I’m ok. People, who can’t do anything about it, wander here and there

I met you and loved you to death
My heart is stained blue and frozen, you left but I’m still here

When winter ends and spring comes, we wither
In longing, our hearts are bruised

I’ll fall asleep under the blue moon all alone again tonight
Even in my dreams, I’ll be looking for you, singing this song

(I’m singing my blues) used to the blue tears blue sadness
(I’m singing my blues) love that I let go to the drifting clouds oh oh
(I’m singing my blues) used to the blue tears blue sadness
(I’m singing my blues) love that I let go to the drifting clouds oh oh

My Opinion:

This show opens with four distinguished-looking middle aged men attending a funeral. They even seem to be pondering their own mortality...until you learn that they're at the funeral to scope out chicks, like that guy in Wedding Crashers. Our hero, Dojin, is a successful creative type; a jerk with a good heart buried under the scruffy self-absorption. His three BFFs are Yoon, a sweet widower who works as a divorce lawyer, Taesan, a practical everyman, and Jungrok, a sneaky womanizer. It's not even two minutes into the show until a fistfight breaks out at the funeral, and we see that we're in for an all-out wholehearted comedy.

This drama is so good. The four guys are very hilarious specially every beginning of the episode. Very funny and cute. Oppa! In the beginning I’m hesitant to watch this because I am still in having a hangover with KING 2 HEART  which is one of my favorite drama and i am scared that i might get bored with this. But Oh!! surprisingly, I never thought that this is so good! Promise it brings so much emotion..Their friendship are genuine. The love story is so real… This is probably one of the funniest dramas i watched. When i first tried this drama i didn’t think i would fall in love with it this much. The four actors are really funny friends and they never fall out with each other because they are best friends since high school and they still are in their 40’s.

My favorite couple  - Perfect illustration that age is just a number:-)

✿ Anxiety ✿

ANXIETY is the body’s way of responding to danger. It’s a survival mechanism designed to keep us alive.

But the danger we perceive doesn’t actually have to be there. We just have to think that it is.

Whether the danger is real or imagine
d, our automatic survival mechanisms will kick in and we will try to escape or avoid the danger.

We might avoid certain people or places. We might refuse to go out. Perhaps we’ll only go out with someone else present and then leave early.

If we choose to face the danger, we might use coping behaviours to get us through, like smoking more, fiddling with our clothes, avoiding eye contact or taking medication.

Whilst our coping behaviours get us through the perceived danger, they actually keep our anxiety going. As long as we depend on them to cope, we don’t give ourselves the opportunity for the anxiety to go away on its own.

Learning to confront our anxiety might be uncomfortable in the short term, but it helps us take control and feel better in the long term.

If you feel anxiety starting to overwhelm you, ask yourself if you have any proof that what you fear is actually going to happen. What is the worst that could happen and how would you cope with it if it did? Imagine it is six months from now. How important will this feel then?

Just because you feel bad, doesn’t mean things really are bad. Imagine yourself coping with this situation. If you can handle it in your imagination, you can handle it in reality.
