Amnesia

When the heroine regains consciousness in an unfamiliar place, she has suddenly lost all memories of everything that happened before August 1. What is this place, and what was she doing there? Who is she, and what sort of life had she lived?

Before her appears a young man named Orion who calls himself a spirit. With his guidance, the heroine begins to search for her lost memories before others can find out she has forgotten them. Gradually, relationships with people around her begin to materialize... childhood friends, respected seniors, and even lovers whose names and faces she no longer knows. Without her memories, though she is keenly aware of their feelings toward her, she is unable to respond to them in kind...


As fragments of memories come back to her and unexpected crises befall her, the story grows increasingly complex as it pulls our heroine in deeper and deeper. What answer lies just beyond the memories she has lost?

Opinion: If you suddenly wake up with a total inability to remember anything, up to and including your own name, and a pointy-eared spirit dressed like an anime harlequin tells you not to go to the hospital, do not listen to him. Had the unnamed heroine of the otome game-based series Amnesia  listened to this sound advice, of course, there would be no show, but it is difficult to think of a thinner premise upon which to base a story, or even one less flattering to the protagonist's intelligence. That aside, Amnesia's first six episodes make for strangely attractive viewing, if only to figure out what it is that keeps us watching in the first place.

The basic plot of Amnesia is that a young woman, who is either in her last year of high school or in college, wakes up on the morning of August first with no memories. A spirit named Orion tells her that she has Amnesia and counsels against going to the hospital. Instead, he says, she should just try to live her life as normal and see what comes back to her. As might be expected, very few things do and she has to learn the hard way that she works at a trendy maid cafe and apparently spends her time surrounded by a bevy of attractive young men with playing card themes. After the show introduces all of the main players, episode two ends with the heroine falling off a cliff, presumably to her death, because when she wakes up in the hospital, it is August first again, but this time she appears to be dating Shin, the heart-themed guy. This state of events helps her to recall a few more things before she is hit by a truck in episode four, causing time to reset again. Now she's dating Ikki (spades)...until she appears to drown in episode six. Presumably when she awakens in episode seven, it will once more be the first of August and she will be dating either Kento (clubs) or Toma (diamonds).

While it is clear that the show is trying to cover all of the game's routes (as in the different options that lead the heroine to end up with one hero or another), it does create a sort of strange fascination for the viewer. Recurring themes of wishing on shooting stars, bullying by other girls, and the fact that the heroine at one point did have a personality and some gumption combine to make things intriguing. What is the deal with August first? How does that fit in with her being stuck on some sort of karmic wheel? Who is that weird fellow with the green hair who apparently can jump timelines? The mystery factor of Amnesia is one that niggles at the viewer's mind, allowing her to put up with the less savory elements of the show in order to figure out once and for all what is going on.

Unfortunately it has a lot to compete with. The female protagonist is one of the least sympathetic to grace the small screen in a while, coming off as terminally stupid (if you fall off a boat, you swim, not stretch your hand up to the surface) and rarely speaking in complete sentences. The male leads fare a little better, but that's not hard given the fact that they have actual lines. Perhaps the biggest blow against Amnesia, however, is the way it is primarily animated in still shots. Characters are rarely seen moving, and oftentimes those who have played the odd VN can spot where a dialogue option would have popped up on the screen. Simply put, watching Amnesia is like playing the game without getting to make any of the choices.

Visually speaking it does have some interesting aspects. The clothes are by far more stylish than the average, albeit in a somewhat odd style that consists of checkerboard patterns, particolored tight pants, and lots of buckles. It works for the show, however, making everyone stand out in their own way. Eyes are the most sour note in the visuals, with everyone having a strange block of color on the bottom half of their eyes that gives them a slightly robotic look. The animation isn't much to look at, mostly because there simply isn't a lot of movement, but the color choices and patterns do their jobs to keep eyes focused on the screen.

Amnesia is a tortured mixture of intriguing mystery and irritating plot devices and characters. Parts of it are fascinating as we try and sort out the heroine's memory issues and what the deal is with those first days of August while other parts are intensely annoying. It is the kind of show that has you saying partway through every episode, “I'm going to drop this,” before ending in such a way that makes you say, “...after the next episode.” How the next six episodes handle the wrap up (assuming there is one) will ultimately determine the worthiness of this series, but at this point, it is the equivalent of the food that is not quite to your taste, and yet somehow you keep on taking another bite.

Summary:

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects – and bored out of his mind! But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, and notebook dropped by a rougue shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal… or his life?

Thoughts:
Light Yagami is a brilliant young high school student who appears very serious and focused on his studies, getting ready to take his college entry exams (after already pretesting as the highest score in Japan). The only problem is that Light is completely, utterly bored. That is, until one day a mysterious notebook falls into his path. Emblazoned on the front of the book are the words “Death Note”. Intrigued, Light picks up the notebook and studies it in the privacy of his room, opening it to find some very rudimentary instructions:

At first, Light thinks the notebook is a joke–would someone really die if he writes their name in the book? Once he begins experimenting, however, Light discovers that the Death Note is the real deal. With so much power at his fingertips, the very intelligent Light decides that he wants to recreate the world in his image, as a god that will preside over a new-found utopia–and he begins to systematically kill the unjust, prisoners and criminals whose names and crimes he has seen on the news and researched online. Each criminal Light targets dies 40 seconds later of a heart attack.
As it turns out, the Death Note is a tool of the shinigami, or literally translated “death god”.

Each shinigami has a Death Note, in which they write the names of humans who will die. Occasionally, a shinigami will lose his Death Note, or allow it to be picked up by a human. Such is the case with Ryuk, the shinigami that owns the Death Note that Light has found. As Light soon learns, those who touch the Death Note can see its shinigami owner though no one else can–and Ryuk and Light become strange acquaintances as Light provides Ryuk with incredible entertainment. As Ryuk says to Light, “Humans are…a RIOT!”

Soon, the rash of mysterious deaths catches the eye of the International Police Organization (Interpol), who believe all the criminal deaths are related–and dub the murderer “Kira” (the Japanese katakana letters ?? and pronunciation of “Killer”). Interpol pulls its Ace-in-the-hole by setting their top agent, the mysterious, faceless and nameless man known only as “L”, on the case. Though Light’s murders are the ultimate untraceable crime, he is soon locked in a battle of wits, with L closing in on his trail, while Ryuk observes these interesting human behaviors with his shinigami eyes.

Death Note is a trip. Throughout the story, we see the cat and mouse game between Light and “L” as each formulate brilliantly elaborate plans to stay one step ahead of the grim reaper that awaits either one of them should they fail. While this may sound like just another detective story like Detective Conan - it’s NOT. “Death Note” is a much more complex tale than that of the boy detective, but it’s just as addictive.

Light

 “Death Note” goes beyond being a story about good and evil; it makes you question what exactly IS good and evil? Is Light evil for killing criminals and acting as judge, jury and executioner? Is “L” good for using whatever means to capture Kira, even if it means using morally unacceptable practices like forced interrogations? Who’s to say? That’s what makes “Death Note” so deliciously addictive; you don’t quite know who the heck to root for. Of course, you have your favorite character; heck, everyone does. But do you support what that character stands for? Just like politics: you have your favorite candidate, but do you support what that candidate stands for?

The interactions between Light and Ryuk, with Light not even batting an eyelash to the nightmarish figure and Ryuk’s growing amusement to the whole situation, are priceless.

Jang Ok Jung - Lives in Love

Currently after Nine times time travel, the drama that manages to capture my attention is " Jang Ok Jung. This drama have not been doing well in the ratings, but for me it seems interesting enough.

Synopsis

Haute couture meets the high court in this drama based on Lady Jang Hui Bin, or Jang Ok Jung (played by Kim Tae-hee), one of the most celebrated royal concubines of the Joseon Dynasty. Lady Jang establishes herself as a coveted fashion designer who quickly finds herself sought after not only by fashionable noblewomen, but by the king himself (Yoo Ah-in). Political drama and the catwalk collide in this tale of fashioning dreams into reality!





















Drama series follows the turbulent life of Jang Ok-Jung (Kim Tae-Hee), who is also known as Lady Jang Hui-Bin, one of the most famous royal concubines in the Joseon Dynasty. She began her career as a court lady who stitched clothing as a fashion designer of her time.

Jang Ok-Jung's mother was a slave, but her father was a middle-class merchant seller. When she was a teen, her whole family went on the run from slave hunters. Her older brother was lost during this time. Her father was also beaten to death and Jang Ok-Jung's mother was returned to her owner. Afterwards, Jang Ok-Jung lived with a friend of the family, Madame Jung Kang (Yun Yu-Seon). During this time she learned how to sew at Madame Jung Kang's linen shop. She also met for the first time Crown Prince Lee Soon (later played by Yoo Ah-In) around this time. Crown Prince Lee Soon spotted pickpockets stealing from Jang Ok-Jung and came to her aid. They spent a moment together while taking shelter from the rain. Crown Prince Lee Soon fell in love with Jang Ok-Jung then. Even though Lee Soon was the Crown Prince, he was basically powerless at the time. Power was actually wielded by the noblemen. This drove Lee Soon to become a powerful king one day.
As an adult, Jang Ok-Jung runs her own clothing boutique named "Booyongjung". Her handmade clothes become quite popular and in demand. Jang Ok-Jung hopes to free her mother from slavery with her earnings and eventually go to Qing with her.

Jang Ok-Jung then puts on a fashion show. Her mother's owner attends the fashion show and ruins everything for Jang Ok-Jung. She berates Jang Ok-Jung in front of all of her clients, informing everyone her mother is a slave. After the show, Jang Ok-Jung's business quickly goes downhill. A customer then requests Jang Ok-Jung to make clothes for a royal family member, which she promises to do.

Meanwhile, Crown Prince Lee Soon struggles to gain power from the nobility. He only trusts Prince Dongpyung (Lee Sang-Yeob). Lee Soon is now of age to marry. His mother and the man he despises the most, Nobleman Min Yoo-Joong (Lee Hyo-Jeong), decide that Lee Soon will marry nobleman Min Yoo-Joong's daughter Inhyun (Hong Soo-Hyun). Inhyun has been raised to become a queen from a youn age and she has never once doubted her fate. Lee Soon's mother and Nobleman Min Yoo-Joong are nervous though that Lee Soon may reject Inhyun due to her father. Because of this, Crown Prince Lee Soon's mother and Nobleman Min Yoo-Joong concoct a plan.

Crown Prince Lee Soon then sees a woman in the garden. That woman is Jang Ok-Jung, who is waiting to take his measurements. Crown Prince Lee Soon thinks she looks familiar, but he can't place where they have met before. The Crown Prince then asks Jang Ok-Jung if they have met before, but she says no.

Jang Ok-Jung later goes to her mother's owner to buy her freedom, but the slave owner refuses. Jang Ok-Jung asks the slave owner for a reason why her offer is refused and the slave owner tells her to go ask her uncle Jang Hyun (Sung Dong-Il). Her uncle is a highly ambitious man, who hopes to use Jang Ok-Jung for his own ambitions.

Meanwhile, Prince Dongpyung, the man Crown Prince Lee Soon trusts the most, takes an interest in Jang Ok-Jung. Prince Dongpyung then arranges a party where he can spend more time with her. At the party, Crown Prince Lee Soon is also there.

Love 911@ Bandage

What is this movie about?


Kang-Il (played by Ko Soo) is a firefighter who is completely dedicated to saving lives. A little too dedicated, bizarrely enough. He has very little regard for his own security and willfully forces himself into dangerous situations. Mi-soo (played by Han Hyo-joo) has the opposite problem. She's a doctor who's willfully forced herself not to show empathy with her patients. The worst thing that can happen to a doctor's career, after all, is admitting any kind of fault- it's a major opening to lawsuits.

Not that Mi-Soo's a cold-hearted person by any means. She's bubbly, cheerful, and very forward- when she's with people she's allowed to empathize with, anyway. Contrast with Kang Il's character. He refuses to have any fun under any circumstances. Yes, the life of a firefigher often involves danger- but it's also a job where they may be called on to do any other weird random task that no other public department is really designed for. In an early scene, the full squad has to ride out to a part of the freeway with gigantic bug-catching nets, for a purpose that's just about impossible to guess until they actually get there. It turns out to very comical and adorable.


love 911 - Go Soo


The dynamic between the two leads in "Love 911" constantly skirts around these boundaries. Kang-Il isn't just a sour guy who refuses to have fun. His past is such that it's difficult for him to process the idea that he's even allowed to have fun. He's a nice (and handsome) enough guy otherwise- but it's clear that he hates himself way too much for his own good. His co-workers in the fire department recognize this, and very deliberately enable Mi-Soo's aggressive flirting as much as possible. This leads to many funny situations similar to the one above- since Kang-Il could be rid of this annoying woman forever if only the rest of the fire department stopped helping her.

Mi-Soo gets just as much from this relationship. We see that she's a woman full of life and compassion, and can guess that this is why she wanted to become a doctor. Then we get a sharp contrast with her demeanor in the hospital scenes. She and Kang-Il both are taking their work too seriously- but for markedly different reasons that are surprisingly difficult to clearly compartmentalize. For them, simple platitudes aren't enough. They need contrast, and find it in each other.

The chase is really fun. There are some sweet moments, but mostly funny moments. I couldn’t recall if I ever watched Han Hyo Joo in such a comedic role. She’s so funny when she screams like a man with that pretty face!:D

That's what "Love 911" is about centrally. The effort that needs to be put into relationships, and the full appreciation of what you have and may some day lose- but not today, not if at all possible. It also recognizes that work and love are not independent spheres of our lives. Loving a person means being the best possible you so that they can be happy, too. It means that sacrifice has to come from that desire- not out of some determination to appropriately assign blame. It all makes for a very human message about relationships.

BUT, things aren’t as easy as they seem. Kang-Il has something from his past that he couldn’t forget. Now, it’s Mi-Soo’s part to heal that heartache–to put a bandage on his past. On the other hand, Kang-Il has to teach Mi-Soo what’s really valuable and what are not. As their lives got entangled, I laughed and I cried—but mostly, I laughed!:D

"Love 911" has the laughs and drama necessary to be great watching on its own. But it's this deeper meaning that lets it linger on in my mind.  Overall, I love this movie and I recommend that you watch it, too!:D

Move Toward Things That Inspire You:.

Last week, with my working collegue,  I embarked on a parasailing adventure in Batu Ferringi, Penang.  It was the most beautiful day of the year thus far and it couldn’t have been better if we planned it. In fact, the spontaneity was probably the reason it was so great. We went with the wind.

As I was up in the sky,  I constantly scanned my surroundings. When I would feel a buzz of excitement or a flash of insight rush through me as I was " flying" in the sky.

“Wow!,” I’d yell to my collegue. It was a amazing feeling, renewed.

Every place had a different vibe, a different expression. There were moments of joking around, dancing and playing. There were bouts of serenity and calm where an overwhelming peace flooded my veins.

At the end of the day I felt as if so much life had been lived. I embraced the feeling. I felt grateful. I realized the whole day was based on listening to the intuitive voice in my body. We never stopped unless we felt inspired to and because of that a day full of love as well as a work of art was created.

This is how our whole lives should be lived. Don’t do things that don’t inspire you. Listen to your body and learn to move toward the things that make it rush with positive energy. Trust in it. The outcome of an inspiration based life will be full of love and moments that leave you feeling complete.

Let it Pour...

It took me a long time to gather the courage to trust the inside voice but I’m never turning back. I know there’s no better guide than the one in my heart - it’s beyond question - it just is - I can feel it. 
 
I sit eyes shut and listen. Sometimes I talk out loud - I ask for things. I ask to see truth - I ask for guidance. Then I just feel it all buzz inside me and I know. I know everything will happen as it should and that whatever is occurring is timely for growth. We should choose to be loving to whatever comes our way. Every experience is an opportunity. Only when I give in and release the need to control does my body settle. It gets so comfortable in the silence and the world around me becomes clearer. There is a higher definition in each crease of the bed sheet and the way my hair sweeps across my shoulder - I feel it, I really feel it. 
 
The calm comfort in my body is love and I actually feel alive.

Today I woke up to one of those mornings where your head itself feels heavier than your entire body and the only place it wants to remain is mushed into the pillow. I kept telling myself 5 more minutes, 3 more minutes, just another minute…only to have fallen back asleep and to wake up 30 minutes later. I knew well at this point I would be late for work. To go or not to go, that was the question. I thought, I have only used one sick day this year and continuing to sleep is so very tempting. Also, does being overtired qualify as a sickness? Ha. After shortly mulling over my bed vs. the office I took a deep breath and choose to get up. I convinced myself, ”I am ok, I feel good, I am healthy, I can do this, I know I will feel amazing if I take charge of my day.” No I didn’t say these things out loud, but it did however give me the motivation to actually feel that way. I even decided to get on my car and  drive to work. And daebak!!!, I felt amazing. Who knows what I could be capable of today!

I believe that you yourself can be your own motivator. Yes, it’s always nice to have someone put a fire under your tush, but you can be just as effective! First you’ve got to want it and believe that you can. Then when you find yourself thinking you want to skip your gym day or slack on your work, you can search for that little voice to give yourself a pep talk in your head. Yes, it’s there! Find the mini motivator in your mind and let it push you forward, put your foot down and squash any negative thoughts. I have realized that it feels really good to know that you have helped yourself. Self-motivation equals self-satisfaction.

If you want to accomplish anything in life, you can’t just sit back and hope it will happen. You’ve got to make it happen. ♥

Synopsis:

Park Sun-Woo (Lee Jin-Wook) works as an anchorman at a TV broadcasting station. He is in love with newsreporter Joo Min-Young (Jo Yoon-Hee), who is bright and honest. Park Sun-Woo then obtains 9 incense items, which allows him to go back 20 years in time. Park Sun-Woo travels to the past.

CBM reporter Min-Young (Jo Yoon-Hee) is in the country of Nepal, covering an expedition team as they attempt to climb Annapurna Mountain. Min-Young hears that senior reporter Sun-Woo (Lee Jin-Wook) is set to arrive in Nepal and goes to the airport to welcome him.
Suddenly, Sun-Woo kisses Min-Young. This is shocking to Sun-Woo, because she confessed her feelings for him, but he didn't seem to care. Sun-Woo asks Min-Young to live together for only 6 months.

Meanwhile, Sun-Woo goes to the police station and confirms that the frozen body is his older brother Jung-Woo (Jeon No-Min). Sun-Woo blames himself, because he saw Jung-Woo shortly before his death and he looked like something was wrong.

That evening, Sun-Woo can't go to sleep. At that moment, he sees something unbelievable.

It is a perfectly written and directed drama. I don't know how to express it. For me, it is the best drama for 2013 so far, especially among time-travel themed dramas. I like the way it focuses on how the present changes because the past changed. Also the message it is giving out - "you cannot change the past" - is great. I like all the twists and suspense the drama is giving me. Can't wait to see the next episode.

Formula One at Sepang

This was really a very busy weekend for me..I practically spend the weekend at Sepang International Circuit . The Malaysian Grand Prix was packed with action – and a fair bit of controversy too. Here’s the race in pictures.

Our seat was at the main granstand " Crystal" which is right opposite the pit stops.


I was sitting right opposite current world champion, Sebastian Vettel's pitstop.

Ferrari gamble’s on keeping Alonso out with a damaged front wing, following a collision with Vettel in Turn 2 at the start, had spectacular consequences when the wing collapsed and sent him off the road on the second lap. Massa fell back immediately from his front row starting position and lacked the leaders’ race pace, but took solid points for fifth.


Sebastian Vettel led home a commanding Red Bull 1-2 in Sunday’s 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand PrixPodium finishers - Vettal, Webber and Hamilton. Honestly i was dissapointed not to see any Ferrari Driver on the podium, but seeing Vettel there still make my day.

The controversial manner in which Vettel overtook Webber against team orders inevitably sullied his triumph. The result did, however, push Red Bull into the lead of both the drivers’ and constructors’ standings and confirmed that in the RB9 the reigning world champions still have the fastest car - in qualifying and race trim.

Mercedes again looked very competitive, but both Hamilton and Rosberg had to back off, lifting and coasting, all through the race to conserve fuel after adopting an aggressive fuel strategy in the unsuccessful attempt to match the Red Bulls for race pace. Nevertheless, third and fourth places were further testimony to the serious progress the team have made. I truly believe Rosberg deserved the 3rd spot...
