✿ The Moon Embracing the Sun ✿

Title: The Moon Embracing the Sun

Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Period

Episodes: 20

Broadcast network: MBC

 Synopsis:

The story of the secret love between Lee Hwon, a fictional king of Joseon, and Wol, a female shaman. Wol was born as Heo Yeonwoo, the daughter of a noble family who won the love of the crown prince, Hwon. Her enemies, jealous of her family’s position in court, schemed against her and wrestled away her rightful place as crown princess and nearly takes her life. Years later, an embittered Hwon meets Wol, now a female shaman who has no recollection of her past.

Plot

Lee Hwon, the crown prince, and Heo Yeon-woo, the daughter of the chief scholar, meet by chance in the palace and fall into puppy love. It’s nice because they have the physical attraction but also respect the other’s intelligence. There is also Hwon’s most awesome Eunuch, Hyung-soo, who stays by his side his whole life providing support and comic relief.

Lee Hwon has a half-brother by another mother, Yang-myung, who was exiled from the palace. He, too, is in love with Yeon-woo. Yang-myung is also best friends with Heo Yeom, Yeon-woo’s brilliant older brother, and Woon, a genius in the physical arts. Yang-myung is a free spirit who offers to take Yeon-woo away from her potential assignation as the king’s concubine but she loves Hwon and refuses.
Yoon Dae-hyung, his daughter, Yoon Bo-kyung, and the Queen Dowager want Bo-kyung as queen to keep the power with the king’s maternal family. When Yeon-woo gets selected as the queen-to-be (despite the fact that Bo-kyung was supposed to be chosen) the young couple is ecstatic, but the baddies decide to take her out. The Queen Dowager has the head shaman place a curse on Yeon-woo, which will eventually kill her.

This shaman, Jang Nok-young, promised her friend to protect Yeon-woo, so instead of letting Yeon-woo die of illness, she gives Yeon-woo’s father a medicine to make Yeon-woo appear dead. Her family gets denounced, receving the blame for allowing an ill girl to be betrothed to his crown princess. WHATEVER.

The prince is heartbroken when Yeon-woo “dies” and has to marry Bo-kyung. Nok-young digs up Yeon-woo from her grave and raises her to be a shaman. Her faithful slave, Seol, goes with.

Eight years later, Lee Hwon is king and neither he nor Yang-myung have forgotten their love for Yeon-woo. Woon is the king’s trusty right hand man, hurting his bestie Yang-myung. The baddies, led by Yoon Dae-hyung, plot ways to control Hwon, who has turned out headstrong and utterly against all of the baddies mechanizations. Paramount in the baddies plan is getting Hwon to consummate his marriage with Bo-kyung and make a royal heir, but he won’t touch her, always claiming illness. This is a major conflict between him and the baddies. If he has an heir, then Hwon can be killed and the heir groomed to their ends.

As for Yeon-woo, she wakes up from her curse with no memory of her past and grows up as a shaman. In a twist of fate, she meets Hwon, who feels that she is familiar, but she doesn’t recognize him. He gives her a name, Wol, since she has none.

A while later, she gets kidnapped in order to draw Jang Nok-young back to the palace. She gets used as a bad-luck absorbing charm for the king, which basically means she sits by his bed all night and helps him sleep. Of course, this works. Eventually she gets caught and a lot of the plot is of Hwon and Yang-myung trying to figure out where they know her from and why she reminds them of Yeon-woo. She fights her memories and the baddies use Hwon’s strange attachment to her to manipulate him.
There’s a lot of her being a noble idiot and heaping loads of blame on herself. There’s a lot of him telling her she’s a no one because she’s a shaman only to make himself feel better that he likes a mere shaman.

A lot of jealousy on Bo-kyung and Yang-myung’s parts.

Min-hwa, Lee Hwon’s sister, had been obsessed with Yeon-woo’s brother Yeom and because the family was denounced, she marries Yeom and restores their status. Turns out, she had a key part in the curse that “killed” Yeon-woo. Her extreme desire for Yeom made her the perfect human effigy to fuel the curse. So basically, she “killed” his sister in order to have him. Yeom finds out and she gets sentenced to slavery. Their baby stays with Yeom.
Some more baddies attacking Hwon through Yeon-woo and Hwon defending his status, Yeon-woo and his country. Yeon-woo as Wol has a lot of stuff happen to her and Yang-myung continues to be there for her as does her servant Seol.

Eventually, they come up with a grand ol’ plan, Yang-myung pretends to betray Hwon, gets the baddies on his side and then good guys win in the end. Bo-kyung hangs herself. Yang-myung sacrifices himself so he won’t hurt his brother anymore, baddies die, Hwon marries Yeon-woo, they have a kid who becomes friends with Yeom’s kid. Yeom gets back with the princess and everyone lives happily ever after.

As you can see, it’s all about the love story. Every character was geared towards the love story and that weakened the plot incredibly. I would’ve loved to see Hwon working as a king to truly problem solve against corruption. I would’ve loved to see Yang-myung covet the throne for some reason other than Yeon-woo – perhaps because of a different vision of where Joseon should be headed. I would’ve loved to see the friendship between Yeom, Yang-myung and Woon played out to it’s fullest. I would’ve loved to see Hwon grow up under the trials and tribulations of being king instead of pitching fits. Or maybe Yang-myung move by his side and guide him and not be in love with Yeon-woo. It’s such a tired plot device to have brothers in love with the same woman. I would’ve loved to see people band together to fight corruption.

My Opinion:

I originally just judged this drama based on its title before I started it. The title sounded very melodramatic and historical, so I thought that the drama wouldn’t be that interesting or lighthearted but I was wrong. While this drama is dramatic and it has its melodramatic elements in it (like the memory loss), it was also lighthearted at times.

I believe that this drama is worth watching. If you’re in for the eye candy, you will be satisfied. If you’re here for a riveting story and plot, then you’ll be somewhat satisfied but not fully.Overall I enjoyed watching this drama, but more for its eye candy than for its plot.

✿ ThE PowEr of wOrds ✿

Do you understand the power of words ?
What they can do once uttered ?
They can pierce and hurt like an arrow astray
They can linger on for years even if said today
They can like honeycomb sweeten someone's day
Or bring gloom and turn a day from sunny to gray
They can destroy or heal once they leave
They can be your friends or an enemy up your sleeve
Better use them to show lots of love ,hope and laughter
So that to you too they bring joy and happiness there after....

✿ Because...✿

I smile…
I smile because I am happy,
I smile because I am free,
I smile because I finally know what it is like to know me.

But I laugh…
I laugh because it’s funny,
I laugh just for me,
I laugh just to see you smile back at me.

And I cry…
I cry for times not forgotten,
I cry to release the pain inside,
I cry to lift my sorrows up to the heavens in the night sky.

So I write…
I write to release the memories,
I write in search of me.
I write and give it as a gift for the whole world to see.

So smile with me when I am happy,
Laugh with me just for fun,
And cry with me until you see the sun.
But cherish my words forever,
Until this life is done.

The Bride Collector

Synopsis:

FBI Special agent Brad Raines is facing his toughest case yet. A Denver serial killer has killed four beautiful young women, leaving a bridal veil at each crime scene, and he's picking up his pace. Unable to crack the case, Raines appeals for help from a most unusual source: residents of the Center for Wellness and Intelligence, a private psychiatric institution for mentally ill individuals whose are extraordinarily gifted.

It's there that he meets Paradise, a young woman who witnessed her father murder her family and barely escaped his hand. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Paradise may also have an extrasensory gift: the ability to experience the final moments of a person's life when she touches the dead body.

In a desperate attempt to find the killer, Raines enlists Paradise's help. In an effort to win her trust, he befriends this strange young woman and begins to see in her qualities that most 'sane people' sorely lack. Gradually, he starts to question whether sanity resides outside the hospital walls...or inside.

As the Bride Collector picks up the pace-and volume-of his gruesome crucifixions, the case becomes even more personal to Raines when his friend and colleague, a beautiful young forensic psychologist, becomes the Bride Collector's next target.

The FBI believes that the killer plans to murder seven women. Can Paradise help before it's too late?

My Opinion:

Women of the Denver area are being targeted by a killer the FBI are calling The Bride Collector. The killer leaves his victims naked except for panties and a veil. The body is glued to the wall and the blood is drained from the victims.

FBI Special Agent Brad Raines is at a dead-end in his investigation. Nikki Holden, a forensic psychologist, working with Brad is of the opinion that the killer thinks of himself as the groom and that his preparations of the body are done out of love. When the killer leaves a note in the heel of his victim Brad and Nikki are at a loss to figure out the message that the killer is trying to convey.

Determining that the killer is both mentally ill and a genius the FBI turns to the Center for Wellness and Intelligence. The center is a private home for gifted, mentally ill residents. When Brad and Nikki visit the center, they meet residents Roudy, Andrea, Enrique and Paradise. People have their own set of personal problems but each is highly intelligent. Although the mannerisms of the group could be considered at times comical their mental problems are very real. The group works hard to decipher the meaning behind the message left by The Bride Collector and manage to reach a solution that is a big help to the FBI.

Brad suffers from a mental problem of his own in that he cannot forget his first love who killed herself because she didn’t think she was beautiful enough. The killer leaves a note that indicates he has taken a personal interest in Brad that makes Brad fear for anyone close to him.

Paradise seems to have the ability to see the final moments before a person’s death by touching the body. Brad works to gain Paradise’s trust and soon he is fascinated by Paradise who refers to herself as a skank because she feels she is ugly.

This is a fast-paced book and not your usual serial killer story. The Bride Collector ended too soon for me.

✿ Princess Hours @ Goong ✿

Title: Princess Hours @ Goong
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Episodes : 24 episodes

Cast:
Yoon Eun Hye as Shin Chae-Kyeong
Joo Ji Hoon as Prince Lee Shin
Kim Jeong Hoon as Prince Lee Yul
Song Ji-Hyo as Min Hyo-rin

Synopsis:
The series started with the King being seriously ill. Preparing for the worst, the royal family hurries to have the crowned Prince Shin (Joo Ji Hoon) married so he could take over the throne at any time. Prince Shin initially proposes to Min Hyo-rin (Song Ji-Hyo) but she rejects him thinking she would not be able to fulfill her dreams of being an excellent ballerina if she is confined in the palace. Prince Shin then accepts to marry a commoner Shin Chae-Kyeong (Yoon Eun Hye) to whom he was betrothed by his late grandfather in an old agreement with the girl’s grandfather. Chae-Kyeong, an awkward, clumsy high school girl, hesitantly accepts the agreement since her family were hounded by loan sharks. Thus, even though she knew the Prince is in love with another girl, she accepts the marriage in order to give her family a better life.
Easy on the Eyes, Hard on Reality

The marriage to the royal family turns her life upside down as she has always led a carefree life, but now she is being watched by everyone one around her. As time goes, she starts to fall for her husband but the crowned Prince seemed to find it hard to let go of his feeling for Hyo-rin.

To add more spice, Prince Shin’s cousin, Prince Lee Yul (Kim Jeong Hoon) and his mother, Lady Hwa-Young, who was once the Crown Princess before the death of her husband who is the older brother of the present King. There was a scandal that led them being chased out of the palace with Prince Lee Yul growing-up in Britain. Lady Hwa-Young returns specifically with grand plans to restore her son back to the throne to the point of creating havoc in the palace to achieve her goal.

Meanwhile, Hyo-Rin realizes her mistake, declines her dream offer of studying ballet abroad and goes back to pursue Prince Shin even though he is already married now. Chae-Kyoung knowing of their past history, watches helplessly as Hyo-Rin tries to get back to the Prince Shin. Prince Lee Yul seeing the hurt in her eyes, tries his best to console and comfort her but in the process, falls in love with her as well while Prince Shin is struggling to deny his growing feelings for Chae-Kyeong.

It is a story of love, sacrifice, and politics which is plotted beautifully.

Princess Hours | Korean Drama | Celebrity Korea

Review:

At first, I was thinking twice of I should watch is as it gave me the thoughts that this is another  high school drama. Chae-Kyoung was so awkward and unrefined that even I felt she did not deserve to be a Princess. However, the transformation of her character was very subtle that before I realized it, she has transformed herself to become someone deserving the crown and Shin. Shin was so rude and awful to her but when he realized his feelings for her; he realized it was pure love.

I never sympathized Min Hyo-Rin primarily because I felt her character was so wooden and dull. This was opposite of Lee Yul. Even though he portrayed the negative character, I still felt bad for Lee Yul. If not for him, Chae-Kyoung would have had a worse life in the palace specially that Prince Shin constantly reminds her that he has no feelings for her. Shin can really be a bad bully sometimes but I guess that’s because he wants to make sure he does not fall in love with Chae-Kyoung and feel guilty for keeping her in the palace beside him. To the end, I still sincerely wished for him to be happy. I guess if he’s guilty of anything, it would have been to fall in love with the wrong woman and I can’t seem to hate his character.

The two main protagonists acted so well. I believe the series did so well mainly because of the two actors and I can’t help but love both of them.Overall, its enjoyable.

✿Taare Zameen Par ✿

Details:

Language: Hindi
Year: December 21, 2007
Actors: Darsheel Safary, Aamir Khan, Tisca Chopra, Tanay Chheda, Vipin Sharma
Director: Aamir Khan
Producer: Aamir Khan
Screenplay: Amole Gupte
Music: Shankar, Loy, Ehsaan

Taare Zameen Par is one film that makes you peep into a child's mind and how some parents, in their pursuit to make them 'stronger' academically, forget that there's hitherto untapped talent that needs to be nourished and encouraged.

Taare Zameen Par drives home a strong message, making you empathize with the kid, compelling you to draw parallels with your life, making one realize that some of the renowned geniuses were once scoffed at, but the world had to bow down to their intellect later.Sure, Taare Zameen Par boasts of a story that strikes a chord, but most importantly, it has been treated with such sensitivity and maturity that you're left shell-shocked in amazement by the sheer impact it leaves in the end.

Taare Zameen Par heralds the birth of a topnotch storyteller -- Aamir Khan. To choose a story that's a far cry from the mundane stuff that's being churned out like factory products, requires courage and conviction and to execute it with panache is a rarity. Those who somewhere nursed a grudge that the camera follows Aamir in all his films, will chew their words once they watch Taare Zameen Par. Yes, Aamir has a key role to portray as an actor, but the camera captures the child's emotions like never before in a Hindi film. Also, let's also clear the myth about Taare Zameen Par being a kiddie film. It's not! It's about children. Note the difference!

In a nutshell, Taare Zameen Par serves as a wake up call for every parent or parent-to-be. Also, it heralds the arrival of a magnificent storyteller -- Aamir Khan. At the end of the day, it's not difficult to choose who's better -- Aamir, the actor or Aamir, the director. Taare Zameen Par is a triumph all the way from the director's point of view.

Ishaan Awasthi [Darsheel Safary] is an eight-year-old whose world is filled with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate; colors, fish, dogs and kites are just not important in the world of adults, who are much more interested in things like homework, marks and neatness. And Ishaan just cannot seem to get anything right in class. When he gets into far more trouble than his parents can handle, he is packed off to a boarding school to 'be disciplined'. Things are no different at his new school and Ishaan has to contend with the added trauma of separation from his family.

One day a new art teacher bursts onto the scene, Ram Shankar Nikumbh [Aamir Khan], who infects the students with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of 'how things are done' by asking them to think, dream and imagine, and all the children respond with enthusiasm, all except Ishaan.
Nikumbh soon realizes that Ishaan is very unhappy and he sets out to discover why. With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself.

As the story unfolds, you realize that the story peeps into the mind and heart of a kid, his interests, his hobbies, his strengths and weaknesses. The director opens the cards at the very outset, when you realize that the kid is just not interested in books/studies. And his interaction with his stern father, doting mother and lovable brother is straight out of life.

There are several moments in the first hour that make you moist-eyed. The bonding between the mother and son is remarkable. These moments effectively capture the special bonding, making you realize that a mother's mere touch can act like a soothing balm on a troubled soul.

Aamir takes the courageous stand of placing the story on Ishaan's shoulders right through the first hour and not once do you feel that the kid doesn't have the power to keep your attention arrested. The second hour is equally challenging and most importantly, motivating. The introduction of Aamir's character, Aamir spotting the indolent Ishaan, Aamir traveling to Mumbai to meet Ishaan's parents and then citing examples of extra-ordinary men who were ridiculed by their contemporaries/peers -- these moments linger in your memory even after the show has concluded.

But the best part is reserved for the finale -- the art competition in the penultimate twenty minutes. The emotions reach an all-time high as the kid regains his confidence. The finale would melt even the stone-hearted!

On the whole, Taare Zameen Par is an outstanding work of cinema. To miss it would be sacrilege. It has everything it takes to win awards and box-office rewards!Do yourselves a favor. Watch Taare Zameen Par with your child. It will change your world. It will also change the way you look at your kids!

Taare Zameen Par

English Translation:

It’s a star twinkling, beautiful night
I hope this night lasts forever, hold my hand
The blue moonlight makes this a beautiful night
Walk across that sky with me

I’m yours – only you can make my heart race – I’m outta control
I’m yours, nobody, nobody can take your place
You drive me crazy

Left and right, you shake me up on this disco night
From top to bottom, from front and back, you flip my heart inside out
You are like cotton candy, I never get sick of you
Before this night is all over, let’s love all night

I still don’t really know love – the moment I first saw you
I felt a strong wave washing over me
Drenching my heart to the deepest corners oh oh oh oh Girl

It’s a star twinkling, beautiful night
I hope this night lasts forever, hold my hand
The blue moonlight makes this a beautiful night
Walk across that sky with me

I’m yours – only you can make my heart race – I’m outta control
I’m yours, nobody, nobody can take your place
You drive me crazy

Something good Nothing better
Just like a limitless credit card
I strengthlessly fall for you, but this feeling isn’t so bad girl
With one cue, I’ll go inside you, without you knowing
You will keep thinking of me, let’s meet in our dreams, I’m waiting for you

I still don’t really know love
Whenever I stood in front of you
I felt a strong wave washing over me
Drenching my heart to the deepest corners oh oh oh oh Girl

It’s a star twinkling, beautiful night
I hope this night lasts forever, hold my hand
The blue moonlight makes this a beautiful night
Walk across that sky with me

I’m yours – only you can make my heart race – I’m outta control
I’m yours, nobody, nobody can take your place
You drive me crazy

I just wanna love you all night long
I want to fall asleep in your arms tonight

It’s a star twinkling, beautiful night
I hope this night lasts forever, hold my hand
The blue moonlight makes this a beautiful night
Walk across that sky with me

I’m yours – only you can make my heart race – I’m outta control
I’m yours, nobody, nobody can take your place
You drive me crazy

It’s a star twinkling beautiful night

In 1983, the South Korean president and his delegates are visiting Burma when a bomb planted by North Korean agents explodes, killing some high ranking officials. This historical event is called the Rangoon bombing (also known as the Rangoon incident). To strike back, a group of five South Korean officials plan a covert operation to enter North Korea and kill several top members of the North’s high command. Lee Jin-pyo and Park Moo-yul, two Presidential Security Service bodyguards and best friends who were present at the bombing, organize a 21-man team for the mission. However, as the team wreaks havoc in Pyongyang, the officials abort the plan to avoid an international crisis if the mission is discovered. Their major concern is that the United States will withdraw its nuclear protection if the mission is made public, in light of Seoul’s official declaration that it will not retaliate.
The operation is successful, but as the troops swim out from Nampo to an ROK Navy submarine assigned for their extraction, snipers from the submarine open fire on them. An already injured Park sacrifices his life to save Lee. Lee swims back to shore and returns to South Korea, where he finds out that the assault team’s service and personal records have been erased.City Hunter picture
Vowing to avenge his fallen comrades, Lee kidnaps Moo-yul’s infant son. He flees to the Golden Triangle to raise the child as his own and trains the boy intensively in combat. Following an attack on a village they are living in, Jin-pyo confesses his long-term plan for revenge to the child, Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min-ho).
Seven years later, after successfully finishing his college years and attaining a doctorate in the United States at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yoon-sung returns to South Korea to fulfill his step-father’s plan for revenge. He enters the Blue House as an IT expert under the National Communication Network Team. He is warned by Jin-pyo not to trust anyone and never fall in love, as doing so will put the people around him in danger.city hunter korean drama

While working at the Blue House, the plot takes off after Lee meets bodyguard Kim Na-na. Eventually Kim helps him to take revenge, as they discover that they have the same goal in mind. Problems occur as Jin-pyo’s revenge plot unfolds, especially when Lee defies his stepfather at several occasions as they try to identify and kill the officials behind the North Korea mission.

✿ Treasure Every Moment ✿

To realize the value of ONE MONTH,
ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK,
ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR,
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE,
ask a person who missed the train.

To realize the value of ONE SECOND,
ask a person who just avoided an accident.

To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND,
ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have!
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.
That’s why it’s called the present!✿‿✿

✿ Love Changes Things ✿

Like is watered-down love. Like is mediocre. Like is the wishy-washy emotion of the content. Athletes don’t do it for the like of a sport. Artists don’t suffer for the like of art. There is no “I like NY T-shirt”. And Romeo didn’t just like Juliet.

LOVE.

Now that’s powerful stuff. Love changes things. Upsets things. Conquers things. Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will ever happen.

✿ LiFehOuSe - All IN ✿

♥ Lyrics:

All night, staring at the ceiling
Counting the minutes I'm feeling this way
So far away and so alone

But you know it's alright,
I came to my senses
Letting go of my defenses
There's no way I'm giving up this time,
Yea, you know I'm right here
I'm not losing you this time

And I'm all in, nothing left to hide
I'm falling harder than a landslide
I spent a week away from you last night
And now I'm calling, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I'm all in
I'm all in tonight, yeah I'm all in, I'm all in for life
There's no taking back what we've got
It's too strong, we've had each other's back for too long
There's no breaking up this time
And you know it's okay, I came to my senses
Let go of my defenses
There's no way I'm giving up this time

And I'm all in, nothing left to hide
I'm falling harder than a landslide
I spent a week away from you last night
And now I'm calling, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I'm all in,
I'm all in tonight, yea I'm all in, I'm all in for life

I want it, I want it, I want it,
I want it, I want it, I want it, yeah
I want it, I want it, I want it,

And I'm calling, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I'm all in, I'm all in for life
And I'm all in, nothing left to hide
I'm falling harder than a landslide
I spend a week away from you last night
And now I'm calling, calling out your name
Even if I lose the game, I'm all in
I'm all in tonight, yeah I'm all in, I'm all in for life
Yea I'm all in, I'm all in for life

✿ DEfinE LovE ✿

LOVE =

We think about it, dream about it, lose sleep worrying about it.

When we don’t have it, we search for it and when we discover it we don’t know what to do with it. We fear losing it. It is our source of pleasure and pain but we can’t predict which it will be from one moment to the next.

It’s a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define, and… impossible to live without.
