♥ Synopsis ♥
The King 2Hearts portrays a story based on an imaginary modern-day South Korea Monarchy.
Prince Lee Jae Ha (played by Lee Seung Gi), a reckless Prince
(younger brother of the current King Lee Jae Kang) is a very smart man, humorist and playboy Prince. But he doesn't want to be
involved in the political issue, claiming that they're just puppets.
Thus he wasn't happy when his older brother tricked him to join World
Officer Championship (WOC) straight after he was released from his
mandatory military service.
In this WOC, he met with
Kim Hang Ah (played by Ha Ji Won), a top
North Korea secret agent who is longing to be loved by a man. A tough
woman on the outside, but has a very soft heart; she agreed to join WOC
as her general promised that he would help her to find the man of her
dream.
For the first time ever, South Korea and North Korea who were in the
talks of reunification; decided to join forces in this WOC. So the WOC
team from Korea comprise of 3 people from North Korea (Hang Ah) and 3
people from South Korea (Jae Ha, Shi Gyung).
Tension raised as the reckless Prince who didn't want to be in the team
throwing lots of tantrums which made Shi Gyung (the team leader of SK
WOC team and son of the Chief Secretary) picked up Jae Ha's slack. Hang
Ah gave Jae Ha lots of hard times; but in the end, Jae Ha hurt her more
than she could imagine.
After much bickering back and forth, Jae Ha & Hang Ah got engaged, but then the tragedy struck.
This
time, Jae Ha will have to choose the love he has for his country and
the love he has for his woman. Who will he choose in the end?
The King 2Hearts will not only portray an unlikely love story between
Lee Jae Ha & Kim Hang Ah; it will also portray a love story of Lee
Jae Ha's sister "
Lee Jae Shin" (played by
Lee Yoo Ji), a
free-spirited character who goes back to Korea to attend her brother's
engagement. But an event occurred and she holds the key of the country's
biggest tragic event. Thankfully, she has Shi Gyung who stays by her
side and together.
My first impression about the newest MBC drama, The King 2Hearts (TK2H): it exceeded my expectation! It brings up the theme of peace, hope, love, and unity.
All the teasers that they've released didn't give impression that TK2H will be a
black comedy drama.
The intense feeling given in the teasers may caused the viewers think
that TK2H is an action, romance drama. I love action, romance drama such
as IRIS, Athena; so I have a high expectation of the TK2H. After watching
the whole series, I'm shamelessly have to admit that I'm obsessed with this drama.
TK2H is not like a usual Korean drama as it depicts some of the sensitive issue about the reunification of North & South Korea (to achieve this, they arrange the marriage between North Korea's woman
& South Korea's Prince). The writer has cleverly inserted some
metaphors to create light humor in between, as the viewers love funny
scene. But at the same time, the writer has also bravely raised the
issue about the reunification.
And I have to say that TK2H's genre is not a black comedy nor
melodrama. The first part is black comedy, but the second part is black
& thriller. Strong heart is needed to watch this drama as it has a
roller coaster scene which will make your heart pounding so much. One
word about this drama: expect the unexpected. The writer is so good to
throw so many unexpected plot.
The King 2Hearts is a really brave drama (and it's not everyone's
cup-of-tea), raising the sensitive issues which may not be accepted well
by the viewers. But I hope viewers can open their mind and not judging a
drama based on its ratings only.
TK2H is a really great drama! Love the sizzling chemistry between the Couple and I can't wait to see where the drama
will unfold. And whether or not the drama will maintain the light humor
after the tragedy happens (spoiler alert! ^^). The witty writing, solid
acting, great background musics & OSTs; as well as amazing
cinematography; TK2H so far is my #1 drama of the year.
Some viewers may find this drama boring as it's about military, war,
guns, politics. I suggest you to watch episode 4, it went from a prank
which went wrong then to light humor then to a trust-betrayal issues
then to the young Prince who wanted to prove that he's worthy to be part
of a royalty. Combined with a sweet romantic moment between Jae Ha
& Hang Ah, episode 4 is truly off-the-charts episode
King 2 Hearts you are officially nominated on my Best Korean Drama this year.
