Pulau Perhentian is located in the South China Sea 25 km from the coast of Kuala Besut. It consists of two islands, Pulau Perhentian Besar(Big Island) and Pulau Perhentian Kecil(Small Island). Both islands are surrounded by beautiful palm-fringed sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise-blue sea.
We stayed there for 3 days at Shari-La Island resort. Shari-La Resort located at Teluk Aur Beach, Perhentian Kecil. One of the best resort on Teluk Aur. Take about 15 minutes nature walk to Long Beach. We opt to stay is a Deluxe Chalet, which cost about RM280 per night.
During our stay there, we had some much fun, going for island hopping, sunbathing, snorkeling, turtle and shark-watching, sight seeing..and of course, beaches.
However, we have to admit that the sea waves was so strong ( monsoon season was just ending) . We nearly drown as the current was too strong for us in Long Beach. It was a bad few minutes, but thank to the life guard around us, we manage to get safely to the shore.We eventually saw a few people drowning in there and there is no sign saying a word about danger(and in fact thats the most shocking of all because place is full of resorts and beach bars but nobody can put efford to warn people.
It didn't stop us from getting back into the sea, but we were very cautious. If any of you folks plan to get there, just be very careful.
Some facts on Pulau Perhentian:
The Perhentian Islands are home to a significant turtle nesting population. The island was once home to hundreds of nesting Green and Hawksbill turtles but now the islands only receive 300 nestings per year partly due to frequent oil spills from oil production platforms and oil tankers owned by Petronas located not too far away
